Hortense History
Hortense knew she wanted to make jewelry since she was a young child. She would spend hours walking around Place Vendôme in Paris, looking in the windows of the famous jewelry shops: Chaumet, Chanel, Cartier, Mauboussin – admiring the beautiful pieces, thinking about what her own shop would look like.
In the early 2000s she moved to California to pursue her lifelong dream and become one of the jewelry makers she had always looked up to. In 2004 she completed her education and training at the renowned Revere Academy of Jewelry Arts. She continues to live in California, visiting Paris often for continued inspiration and connection to her birthplace.
After starting her jewelry business eight years ago, Hortense’s pieces immediately found success and were featured in famous Parisian jewelry stores like Colette, Merci, and Le Bon Marche. Since then, her collections have been sold in stores throughout the United States, Australia, Japan, and Europe, including OK Boutique and Joie-Current Elliot in Los Angeles; Catbird and Joie-Current Elliot in New York; and Zef, Biba, and Myrtille Beck in Paris, to name a few.
As Hortense herself says: "I am proud that my collections are featured in these boutiques because they represent who I am and the things I like: things that are unique, artistic and modern".
Hortense designs and crafts jewelry that doesn’t follow trends: her unique aesthetic is a delicate balance of Paris and Los Angeles, reflecting her own transatlantic experience. Her design philosophy is focused on playful surprises that will speak to her customers, incorporating her passion for animals and her love of fun designs that are sure to inspire delight.
